Arlington, WA--February 8, 2008 – On Saturday, February 9, 2008, Sound Harley-Davidson and the Marysville Fire Department hosted a Texas Hold ‘em Tournament to raise funds to fight Muscular Dystrophy. First cards were dealt at 5:00 pm in this inaugural tournament called “Hold ‘em for a Hog”.
The event drew 230 Firefighters, Harley enthusiasts, and poker players who all played for a chance to win a new Harley-Davidson® motorcycle courtesy of Sound Harley-Davidson. Registration began at 4:00 p.m. at the Hawthorn Inn and Suites in Arlington. Limited tickets were available at the door for $85.
Scott Smernis, owner of Sound Harley-Davidson was proud to be host this tournament. “Harley-Davidson family of customers, dealers, suppliers and employees have raised more than $65 million dollars since 1980 to aid MDA research and program services. As the newest dealership in the state, Sound Harley-Davidson is excited to be able to continue to support the MDA and its critical research and programs."
MDA helps children and adults who are affected by any of 43 neuromuscular diseases covered by MDA’s medical services and research programs. MDA receives no government funding and charges no fees to those served by the Association. The money raised by fire fighters in Washington goes to help the 1,900 families in our state affected by neuromuscular diseases.
At the end of the evening, a little over $32,000 was raised in our fight to extinguish Muscular Dystrophy!
Thank you to all those who attended and supported this event, and a sincere Congratulations to Captain Jeff Cole of the Marysville Fire Department for winning our Grand Prize.
